Our Services

  • Laboratory is SASO/ISO/IEC 17025 : 2005 accredited and is authorized to carry out various dielectric testing of electrical power equipment as per IEC, ANSI, IEEE, SASO, BS or other relevant test standards and codes.
  • Our laboratory has been carrying out extensive Type testing for different high voltage equipment over the last 25 years, these included power/distribution transformers, low/ medium / high voltage cables, metal clad switchgear, compact substations, panel boards, insulators, bushings, fuses, grounding rods and other hardware. These equipments have been produced by almost all leading national and regional manufacturers and used by various national/regional utilities and local/regional contactors and other users. 
  • Such testing is routinely witnessed by various clients as well as by the end users and we encourage any discussions related to technical aspects of such testing. The test reports are issued after each testing and are recognized by all concerned.
  • In the current set up the lab conforms to the criteria specified in European Norm 45001 (1989) regarding impartiality, integrity, and technical competence. Being an educational institution, this lab is devoted to teaching, research and related academic activities. It is also used for extending help to national industry and utilities for testing, consultancy and investigative studies. However, it lacks in certain areas such as 'Heat run tests' and in ‘Short Circuit High Current testing’ areas.

Based on the currently available equipment in our High Voltage laboratory and the personnel, the following tests can be performed

  1. High voltage impulse testing of all types (routine, type, sample, etc) for all type of high voltage equipment for up to 1000kV.
  2. High voltage AC testing of different types of high voltage equipment for up to 300 kV.
  3. High voltage DC testing of different types of high voltage equipment for up to 200 kV.
  4. Partial Discharge testing of different components for up to 100 kV.
  5. Dissipation factor and capacitance measurements for different equipments.
  6. Complete electrical type testing of Low & Medium voltage polymeric cables and accessories.
  7. VLF testing & diagnostics of power equipment.
  8. Online Partial Discharge detection / diagnostics of the electrical power networks.
  9. High Voltage Measuring System Calibration services for AC/DC up to500kV and for Impulse up to 800kV.
  10. Long term performance tests on medium voltage cables.

For some of the specific equipment, the test capabilities are as follows:

Power/Voltage/Current/Distribution Transformers
High voltage impulse and AC tests as per IEC, ANSI/IEEE or other test codes for unit of up to 10 MVA rating. Various tests as per customer requirements are possible.

Switchgear and GIS/AIS
High voltage AC and impulse tests as per IEC Standards for Medium Voltage equipment or its components can be performed. In addition tan delta, capacitance and PD measurements are possible.

Power Cables and Accessories
Complete range of electrical type testing for medium and low voltage cables is possible. In addition, many specialized tests such as ‘Qualification testing’ and ‘Long Term Performance Tests’ on medium voltage cables can also be carried out.

Lightning and Surge Arresters
Lightning and switching impulse high voltage tests as well as AC tests on such units can be performed.

Overhead Line Insulators/Bushings etc./Fuses
AC dry and wet withstands and flashover tests, impulse tests, puncture tests, PD tests and dissipation factor and capacitance measurements are possible.

Insulating Liquids
Dielectric tests including AC, DC, impulse breakdown and withstand tests, dissipation factor and capacitance tests, partial discharge measurements, conduction current measurements and oil quality evaluation, etc is possible.

EMI measurements on power line and equipments.

Power Network Diagnostics  
VLF and Online PD testing and diagnostics on power network and equipment can be performed.

Other Measurements are possible
