ORGANIZATION SETUP

Organizational Setup

The laboratory management system is governed within the rules & regulations of King Saud University through Laboratory Manager and its Management Committee. It comprises of a well-coordinated and coherent management setup which not only solves the potential conflicts, but provides the opportunity to strengthen the relationship towards its customers and works in building long term relationship with them.

Our Personnel

The competent testing team of professionals, several of whom have Ph.D. degrees in High Voltage Engineering from USA, Canada, UK and Japan. Collectively they are author or coauthors of over 300 technical papers and several text, and reference books and numerous technical reports. They have been involved in numerous consulting and research and investigative studies, as well. They are involved with Saudi Arabian Standards Organization as well. The testing is carried out in a properly designed and screened high voltage lab which is well equipped for most of dielectric testing.

Given below are brief CV's of specialists who are attached to the High Voltage Laboratory.

Prof. Abdulrahman Ali Al-Arainy (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/alarainy/default.aspx)

Is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department and is the Laboratory Manager of the High Voltage Lab. He obtained Ph.D. degree in High Voltage from University of Toronto, Canada in 1982. Earlier in 1977 he obtained M.Sc. degree from the same university. He graduated with B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Riyadh (presently King Saud University) in 1974. At King Saud University, Dr. Al-Arainy was Assistant Professor (1982-1988), Associate Professor (1988-1996) and Professor since 1996. He was Chairman of Electrical Engineering Department, King Saud University during 1991-1995.He also served on many academic committees during his career at the King Saud University. He taught many undergraduate and graduate courses at King Saud University and has supervised several M.Sc. students. He is a senior member of IEEE, USA and has published more than 60 papers, several books and numerous technical reports. He has consulted extensively in any organizations including Pension Fund, Technical Education Board, SASO, SEC, King Faisal Specialists Hospital, University of Qaseem, Ministry of Higher Education and various other organizations. He has conducted many research projects as well.

Prof. Nazar Hussain Malik  (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/nmalik/default.aspx)

Is Professor of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Pakistan in 1973. He was lecturer in Electrical Engineering at UET from 1973 to 1975. In 1975 he joined University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada as a graduate student and obtained Master's and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1977 and 1979, respectively. From 1979 to 1982 he was Assistant Professor at University of Windsor, Windsor, Canada and University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. He joined King Saud University in 1982 where he is Professor of Electrical Power Engineering. He specializes in High Voltage and Power System. He has coauthored more than 120 papers in International Journals and Conferences dealing with a broad range of technical topics. He is also coauthor of 3 text and reference books. He has been involved in many research and consultancy studies in different fields related to Electrical Power and High Voltage Engineering.

Dr. M. Iqbal Qureshi (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/mqureshi/pages/default.aspx)

Is an Assistant Professor currently attached with Research Center, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained is PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from UK in 1992. After obtaining a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, e remained attached to industrial sector and was involved extensively on substation design, installation, maintenance and testing of several industrial facilities. Since 1975 he was responsible for the High Voltage Laboratory of King Saud University where he was involved in teaching, research and testing of high voltage equipment. He has coauthored more than 90 papers in International Journals and Conferences dealing with a broad range of technical topics. He is also coauthor of 2 text and reference books. He has been involved in many research and consultancy studies in different field. He is a life member of Pakistan Engineering Council, and a Fellow of IEP.

Dr. Essam Al-Ammar (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/essam.ee/default.aspx)

Is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained B.Sc. degree from KSU-Riyadh; Masters from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA and Ph.D. from Texas University in 2007 has recently joined the HV group.  His Ph.D. Thesis was based on: “Development of novel techniques to improve fault detection sensitivity of transformer test during short circuits or transportation”

Dr. Yasin Khan (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/yasin/default.aspx)

Is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees from Peshawar University, Pakistan and PhD in 2004 from Kyushu University, Japan. He is a member of Institute of Electrical Engineers, Japan and Pakistan Engineering council. He has many awards to his credit and has co-authored several publications in international Journals and Conferences.

Eng. Nissar Rasool Wani (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/nrasool/default.aspx)

Is presently working as Deputy Laboratory Manager of the High Voltage Laboratory, Electrical Engineering Department, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from India in 1986 and worked with State Power Development Department of Jammu & Kashmir as a Senior Electrical Engineer and was mostly involved in Design, Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Substations and allied equipment for up to 132 kV. Presently he is the Engineer responsible for the High Voltage Laboratory of King Saud University and is involved in teaching, research and testing’s carried out in the lab.

Eng. Mohammed Usman (http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/musman/default.aspx)

Is currently working as Electrical Engineer in the Electrical Power Lab, Electrical Engineering Department, College of Engineering, King Saud University. He obtained M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from AMU, India in 1984 and worked in India before joining King Saud University. Presently he is engineer responsible for the Electrical Power simulator Lab of King Saud University and is involved in teaching, research and other activities. He is member of IEEE.
